Frank Aleman is the man behind Aleman Boxing in Central Fresno.

Spent the mid-day with Frank Aleman who owns and runs a boxing gym for youths and adults in Central Fresno. I originally had a red gel in the background which went pink. Out of respect for him and my own well being, I swapped it out with a beter color.

Ren Faire

Ren Faire is one of those silly things to shoot. It’s all so fake to the extreme at times but still fun. One of the harder things to shoot is the faire without people in modern clothes.

I’ve always had a strange fascination with old cemeteries. It probably goes back to when I was a student at The University of Oregon. At the time, the largest single thing there was the Pioneer cemetery, across the street from MacArthur Court. I used to spend a lot of time running there. Most all of my vacations have somehow involved a cemetery. This is a cemetery on a hillside in the medieval town of Sighişoara, Romania in the Transylvania region. I just decided to lay down and take a picture for whatever reason. Once I saw it I couldn’t help but do a little Photoshopping. Just some detail enhancing. I swear Photoshop can be like crack sometimes.

The Trevino Kids

So I woke up this morning and said, I’ve got to shoot something or someone. After clarifying what I meant by shoot, we put the word out on The Faceplace. Thirty minutes later we had the evening booked with the Trevino family and their kids (left to right): Mia, Aidan and Lilly. Working with three kids can be a bit of a challenge, thankfully we had an adult for each kid. Everyone made sure that their kid didn’t suffer any bodily injury and we crowded into our second floor studio. Bribes were offered, cajoling took place and empty threats were issued and this is the result. It’s been a long time since I photographed kids this age. In fact I have to go back to about 1997 when I shot 12 babies in a studio for an illustration. This was far easier.
Lilly, 5 with a modeling career in the future.
Something is definitely amusing Mia, 2 1/2 and Lilly.
Quick, all three are cooperating.
Aidan, 16-months with hair that makes the photographer jealous.
Mia plots her next move which probably involves a pillow directed at me.
While Lilly gets a touch up on the lip gloss, Mia poses.
Finally, Lilly by herself.

Joe Montana for the win

I was going through a box of old Tri-X negatives that were in the garage. Mainly stuff I shot when I use to work for the University of Oregon School of Music as their marching band photographer. A little digging turned up this image of Joe Montana scoring a TD against the Broncos. This was their Super Bowl season of 1988. At left of course is Jerry Rice. At right is Harris Barton.

First dance

Grant and Megan Simpson share their first dance as man and wife.

We were lucky enough to attend the Wedding of Grant Simpson and Megan Moore in Bakersfield last weekend. Grant and Megan have been friends for a number of years through the vintage Vespa scooter scene. Two of the nicest people you will ever meet. The wedding was held at the Bakersfield Museum of Art. While Megan and Grant danced their first dance as man and wife I capture this image using the DJ’s spot light to illuminate the happy couple.
